The One Thing I Hate About the Jonas Brothers

Posted by mediameta on September 16, 2008

I mentioned in a previous post how hard I loved Busted, the British teen punk-pop boy band from a few years ago. In fact, my love of Busted informs my love of the erstwhile Jonas Brothers (who, incidentally, seem somewhat absent from media coverage these days. Come on, guys, its a phenomenom, youth wants to know!). BUT, this love of mine puts in the position, somewhat unique, I imagine, of noticing when the JBs cover Busted songs, and therefore noticing when they utterly ruin them.
It makes sense, see – James Bourne, the best part of Busted, after the band broke up (because the worst part of Busted, Charlie, wanted to be in a mopey emo band insted) first fronted the super awesome Son of Dork, and then parlayed his fabulous pop songwriting skills into writing for a bunch of bands, include the Jonas Brothers. They are clearly kindred spirits.

And yet, Busted prided themselves on being snot-nosed punks, while the Jonases pride themselves on abstinence and Christian values and being good kids (what the hell, right?). So when the Jonas Brothers cover Busted, they…change things.
Case in point:

Busted’s What I Go to School For

A member of the staff…thats why my marks are getting so high…

JB’s What I Go to School For.

Wait, what? “A girl from senior class”? Why is that even noteworthy? She’s 19? And…this song doesnt even make any sense anymore!

Grr. To console us, my favorite picture of the incredible James Bourne:

James Bourne!

James Bourne!
